A Poem to Greet the Day

In the darkness

I trade the tangle of sheets

for my familiar

nest on the couch

and settle in

until a flirtatious glow

sweetly, coyly

ebbs in through a kitchen window

demanding admiration.

What can I do but

offer words to the rising sun

who flushes all crimson

in glee,

Lingering a few minutes

letting me admire her

before climbing off the horizon

discarding scarlet bedding.

Shadows shorten

signaling the time

to drain the last dregs

of my bitter morning brew

and join her.

Risen.

Shining fiercely.

Uplifted.
